Yes, I Am Still Thinking

Yes, it is January 3, 2011, and I am still giving a lot of thought to resolutions.

Shouldn't I have been thinking about this the whole month of December, knowing that January was right around the corner?

I was visiting my mom a few weeks ago, and noticed this book laying on her dining room table.

"A Cup of Comfort"

Knowing that my mom is not a reader, I asked her if I could borrow it.

This book is the beginning of my "changing with small goals". I refuse to call my changes resolutions.

I have never been one to keep my resolutions. I have good intentions, but they fizzle-out by March. Are you the same way?

I think resolutions are too demanding, too big, and expect too much out of one person.

One thing that I learned in school is, the human race (Americans) are not good with change. Especially change that is expected quickly, demanding, and is drastic.

Resolutions, in my opinion, are demanding and drastic.

I prefer to set small goals. Make my changes gradually.

Are you with me here?

Just the title of this book turned on a light-bulb for me. Yes, standing in my mom's dining room, the little cartoon light went....BING!!

This is perfect!!

My goal for this new year is to start my mornings differently.

I need some devotion to start my day, and this book is the perfect way to do it.

I have retraced my morning steps.

1. Give the cats their 1 TBS of wet cat food.

2. Start the morning coffee pot (if forgotten the night before)

3. Let the dog out.

4. Let the dog in (give him a treat)

5. Pour a cup of coffee.

6. Sit down in my desk chair and open my email. Check my email, respond if need be, and then open Facebook.

Number 6 is where I need to make changes. My goal for this year is to start every morning differently (of course, I can't neglect the pets). Small goals (changes) will eventually turn into habit. Did you know that?

Before I turn on my computer I am going to read "A Cup of Comfort".

This book of devotional reading is set up to be read in a year.

Every month begins with a short story, and the devotions are dated by the day.

Another goal of mine for this new year is, attend church every Sunday.

I opened my Facebook page this morning, and the very first post on my page said this:

Today, I am thankful for my moments of devotion (the ability to change).

I am thankful I can read.

I am thankful that I can make changes without upsetting myself (no drastic resolutions).

I am thankful I can blog about my changes.

Thankful I can share my goals with others.

I am thankful for another day that I can put off my goal plans on exercise (Oh no, I did not just type that, did I?).

An exercise goal plan is a whole new ballgame. I am still thinking on that one. I think I may need help. I just don't know how I am going to attempt small goals with exercise. If you could help me out with this one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

"Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7

  1. Blessings to you Special Lady! Love this post and how sweetly you share your heart. I think you are making wise change choices in the new year - and you will be glad you did. You are such a dear! I have SO many things to be thankful for, but since I just returned home from spending the day at the hospital with grandson Caden while he received chemo/steroids today - I am VERY thankful for his young life and for my own good health.

  3. Joelle,

I sent you a link through Facebook and posted on your wall. I hope you found it. Amazon carries it, and I'm sure any bookstore would have it too.
