A Brain Break & Cherry Pecan Bread

I have never made a cherry bread before.

It has never struck my interest. I guess because I am not a cherry fan, but since I have made this bread.....my thoughts have changed.

I didn't have enough maraschino cherries, so I added some dried cherries.

I have been on a break from school (my brain break), and I am struggling with time.

What do I do to fill my time?

I have resorted to cat photography......

That is Ravioli in the above picture,
and Tinkie below.

I have also been doing a lot of recipe/blog searching.

Did you know there is such a thing as Preacher Cake?

NO WAY!!

Yes, it's true.....

I took this cherry bread to my Bible study meeting, and the OOOO's and AHHHH's I got from the Minister.....this could easily pass as Preacher Bread.

But just wait until the next Bible study meeting I go to.....He is going to flip when I present Preacher Cake.

I made some changes to the original recipe (go figure....), and the changed recipe is the one that I am supplying.

Cherry Pecan Bread

1/2 c. butter, soft
1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
5 oz. maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
5 oz. dried cherries, chopped (I placed both in my mini chopper and chopped them together)
1 c. chopped pecans
Sprinkle with chopped pecans and course cane sugar before baking.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars together. Add eggs, and continue mixing until light and fluffy. Add baking soda, salt, and vanilla; mix thoroughly.
Alternately add buttermilk and flour to the creamed mixture, mixing only enough to hold ingredients together. Fold in cherries and nuts, mixing lightly. Pour batter into prepared bread pan. Sprinkle with pecans and cane sugar.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until bread tests done. Cool completely before slicing.

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, the unpleasant as well as pleasant. This is not a description of what happens in life; it is a description of what God sends. The Ecclesiastes message: "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life", "A time to be born and a time to die", "No one is going to escape the hurts and sorrows of life", "A time to search and a time to give up"....... All of this is God's wonderful plan for your life. The problem? It is not OUR plan for our life. If we were given the right to plan our own lives we would have no unpleasantness at all. Right? But living without unpleasantness would ruin us. God knows that people who are protected from everything end up being impossible to live with; they are selfish, cruel, unprincipled, and shallow. God sends unpleasantness in order that we might be taught. There is a time for everything. If we were in charge of our own destiny, would the result be wholeness and joy?
