New Taste: Papaya

Have you ever eaten a papaya?

I don't know about you, but when it comes to trying a produce item that I have never eaten before, I get scared.

Usually, I can never tell if it's ripe, juicy, sweet, grainy, etc...

My mom brought me this papaya along with directions on ripeness, cleaning, and eating.

I can do this!

I sliced it open. "The seeds look like fish eggs" was my first thought.

I scooped out the seeds.

Then I used a melon baller to scoop out the fruit.

Squeeze the juice of one lime over the fruit, and it is out of this world delicious....

Why have I waited so long to try a papaya? I could eat this every day, and what a perfect morning breakfast.

"Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!"
Isaiah 30:18

People must wait for Him in "quietness and trust." No amount of fast talking or hasty activity could speed up God's grand design. We have nothing to say to God but "thank you". Salvation comes from God alone. Because He has saved us, we can trust Him and be peacefully confident that He will give us strength to face our difficulties and doubts. We should lay aside our busy care and endless effort and allow Him to act.

  1. You know I have never tried papaya before. Maybe i`ll have to go pick one up this weekend. It would probably be amazing in a smoothie.

  2. You are probably right about the smoothie, but don't forget the lime juice. Papaya and lime go hand in hand. I have looked and looked for papaya in my area and can't find it. I would really like to eat more of this....

  5. Oh Honey - when we went to Hawaii many moons ago, we brought home a whole case of papaya!! Sweetness that I LOOOVE! So tickled to know you 'dared' to try one. They are not easy to find in our area, but if I come across some good ones, I'll be sure to let you know.
