Flood: What Do We Do Now?

A couple weeks ago we had a lot of rain in our area (8 inches within 20 minutes).

Let me correct that; a down-pour of rain.

We got so much rain at one time that our basement sump pump couldn't keep up, and there was no place for the water to go. So our livable basement flooded.

The whole entire town was flooded. That means full drains.....

We have three cats.

This is Ravioli.

And all of their necessities are in the basement.....

Whenever we have company, they don't even know we have cats until they see them (one nice thing about having a basement).

This is Zorro.

And this is Tinkie-wink.

We have a cat door (hole) in the basement door that leads downstairs (nice).

It is very nice for the cats to get to their bathroom and food on their own.

With the water in the basement, the cats were so confused. They were acting like something just invaded their territory (and something did, water....).

This is the sump pump that kept running and running but had nowhere to shoot the water.

We ended up with 2 inches of water throughout our whole entire basement.

Never again will we leave cardboard boxes on the floor, or blankets, or stuffed animals, or electronics, or, or, or.....

We hauled away three truck loads of stuff that got ruined (sad).

But in return, we now have a clean basement.....

Bedroom carpeting that got ruined. We are now going to resort to rugs.....

The carpeting was tore out and hauled away.

This is the yard on the left side of our house (if you are facing it).

And the yard on the right side.....

That is a whole lot of water in just a few minutes.

"This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high."
Genesis 5:15

The boat Noah built was no canoe! Can you picture yourself building an ark the length of one and a half football fields and as high as a four-story building? This huge boat was probably built miles away from any body of water by only a few faithful men who believed God's promises and obeyed his commands.
I would have obeyed God's command to save the basement, but some things are just obstacles we have to go through. The command I heard was, "stay calm, you will get through this, and the "stuff" is just material things." The situation could have been a whole lot worse.

  1. Oh pooh! I'm so sorry to know of your demise. =( Thankful you kept a good attitude. And that you can look at it as getting 'cleaned up'. Hopefully we don't have rain like that ever again. Trust the cats are happy and doing good again too.
